What is agentic commerce?
- Agentic commerce is shopping done by AI on a person's behalf. Rather than browsing your store themselves, customers ask an assistant — ChatGPT, Gemini, Copilot, the Shop app — to find, compare and buy for them. Traffic from these agents to Shopify stores has grown roughly 8× in a year, so “nice to have” is quietly becoming table stakes.
What is the Universal Commerce Protocol (UCP)?
- UCP is an open standard, built by Shopify and Google, that lets AI agents transact with any store — discovery, cart, checkout, orders and identity — regardless of platform or payment processor. Think of it as a shared language so an agent can buy from you without a human ever opening your site. I build the structured data and endpoints that make your catalogue speak it.
How do I get my Shopify store ready for AI shopping agents?
- Clean structured product data, reliable feeds, solid integrations, then UCP-aligned groundwork — roughly in that order. Most stores already have the products; what's missing is the machine-readable layer underneath. That's the part I build.
Do I need structured data for ChatGPT and Gemini to find my products?
- Yes. Agents don't 'see' a nicely designed product page the way a human does — they read structured data. Well-formed schema and clean feeds are the difference between being recommended and being invisible when someone asks an assistant to shop.
What are Shopify Flow and Functions, and when should I automate?
- Flow automates workflows (tag this, notify that, hold that order); Functions customise Shopify's backend logic — discounts, checkout, fulfilment — in code. Rule of thumb: if a person repeats the same click-path several times a week, it's a candidate. I'll also tell you honestly when automation isn't worth the effort.
Do you work with existing Shopify Plus stores?
- Yes — most of my work is on established stores, Shopify Plus included, where automation, integrations and agent-readiness matter most. No rip-and-replace; I build on what you already run.
